The Weekender Republic (TWR) literary prize is instituted to inspire engaging African writers to tell African stories the way it should be told and celebrated. We believe that a literary African prize will showcase the real life and experience of the people of the continent.

The prize is an annual prize open to emerging African writers living in Africa or in the diaspora and who have not published a book before. It is only open to fiction and creative nonfiction writings in English, between 4500 – 5000 words. There will be ten shortlists from both genres, which will be published in an anthology.

The winner of the prize wins $500; the second wins $300, the third wins $200, while the other seven shortlisted contributes get $100 each.
